The Brussels Griffon, also known as the Griffon Bruxellois, is a small yet spirited companion breed that originated in Belgium. Despite their compact size, these little dogs possess huge personalities — curious, affectionate, and full of character.
Originally bred to hunt rats in stables, Brussels Griffons soon found their way into the hearts of European nobility thanks to their expressive, almost human-like faces and lively temperament. They come in two coat types — rough (wire-haired) and smooth (short-haired) — and a variety of colours, including red, black, tan, and belge (a mix of red and black).
Brussels Griffons are deeply devoted to their families and often form a particularly close bond with one person. They are alert, intelligent, and social, making them wonderful companions for individuals and families alike. However, due to their sensitive nature, they thrive best in calm households where they’re not left alone for long periods.
Their affectionate charm, combined with their playful yet dignified attitude, makes the Brussels Griffon a delightful breed that’s as endearing as it is entertaining.
