Information

This breed is highly trainable but thrives best in homes that offer clear structure and daily engagement. Without mental stimulation or exercise, it may become vocal or restless. Early socialization helps balance its natural wariness and enhances adaptability.

Overview

The Croatian Sheepdog (Hrvatski Ovčar) is a native breed from Croatia, developed over centuries to herd and guard livestock. With its compact frame, high energy, and intense focus, the breed excels in tasks requiring agility and responsiveness.

Easily recognized by its dense, curly black coat and expressive face, the Croatian Sheepdog is a tireless worker and deeply loyal to its people. It’s happiest when it has a job to do—whether herding, learning tricks, or participating in dog sports. Though reserved with strangers, it is affectionate and playful with family.
