Information

Cirnechi are intelligent and highly active, yet surprisingly calm indoors. They bond closely with their families and are generally polite but reserved with unfamiliar people. They require gentle training, early socialization, and secure fencing due to their strong prey drive and sighthound instincts.

Their short, low-shedding coat is easy to care for. This is a very healthy and natural breed, with minimal known hereditary issues. Cirnechi adapt well to active households and enjoy activities like lure coursing, scent work, or long walks in nature.

Overview

The Cirneco dell’Etna hails from the volcanic slopes of Mount Etna in Sicily, where it was historically used to hunt small game—particularly rabbits—in harsh terrain. This ancient breed shares ancestry with other Mediterranean sighthounds and is valued for its agility, stamina, and independence.

Sleek and refined, the Cirneco resembles a miniature Pharaoh Hound, with a lean build, erect ears, and a short coat. It is affectionate with its family, gentle in the home, and curious yet cautious with strangers. Despite its elegant look, this is a hardy, rustic breed built for work and endurance.
