Information

Belgian Tervurens are fast learners but need structured, consistent training to thrive. They do best with experienced owners who can provide leadership, stimulation, and purpose. Without these, they may develop behavioral issues or become overly protective.

Their thick double coat sheds seasonally and needs regular grooming to stay healthy and mat-free. While they are striking to look at, they are very much working dogs at heart—agile, focused, and always ready for a task.

Overview

The Belgian Tervuren, one of the four Belgian Shepherd varieties, is best recognized by its long, straight double coat in rich fawn to mahogany shades with black overlay. Developed in Belgium for herding and protection work, the Tervuren combines beauty, brains, and boundless energy.

This breed excels in obedience, agility, and protection sports—and forms a deep bond with its owners. While affectionate with family, the Tervuren is naturally reserved with strangers and always alert, making it an excellent watchdog. Its intelligence and drive require both physical exercise and mental engagement daily.
